Confidentiality

All services and supports offered by PSN are confidential unless otherwise dictated by law or through written consent from the client to release information to other parties.

All counselors, support staff and members of the Board of Directors must adhere to organizational policies regarding confidentiality. In addition, counseling staff must also adhere to the code of conduct and standards of practice regarding confidentiality within their professional designation.

A very common question that is asked of PSN by clients is ‘Will my employer know I am accessing services at PSN?’. The answer to this inquiry is: ‘No. Unless you sign a ‘consent to release information’ form which outlines the people and the type of information you are OK to share, no one will know about your involvement with PSN’.

There are situations where an employer will refer an employee to PSN as a condition of their employment. In these cases, the employer and employee will discuss the expectation to sign a ‘consent to release information’ prior to booking the appointment with PSN and include what particular information the employer needs to know. An example of this information sharing might be whether the employee is attending appointments as expected.
